Follow Orders

I woke up with a blanket over me. I looked around and I was alone. My knife was sitting on the coffee table.
"Richard?" I called out.
He peeked around the corner of the wall in the kitchen. I stood up and tightened my robe around me. I crossed my arms and walked over to him.
"Sleep well?" he asked as he handed me a cup of coffee.
I ignored his question.
"What are you doing here?" I asked calmly.
"I  came to make sure that you were safe. I didn't want you to get cold so I covered you with a blanket. I uh, got caught up in watching you sleep so I stayed,"
I blushed.
"I said you can intervene if she is in trouble," a voice from behind me said.
I jumped, dropped my cup of coffee and turned around. It was Castiel. I backed up against Richard. He wrapped his arms around me. Castiel took a step closer.
"Cas, back off," Richard growled as he pulled me behind him.
"You know I won't hurt her Richard,"
I sat my hand on Richard's shoulder and looked up at him. He looked at me.
"Im sorry," he said softly.
I looked at Castiel. He glared at Richard, his eyes locked on him.
"He's not hurting anything Cas. He's really sweet. He's doing his job," I said.
"I said intervene if you're in trouble. I didn't give permission for him to court you, Cadence,"
"We haven't done... anything Cas,"
"Yet,"
I dropped my hand down to my side.
"Castiel, I'm just looking after her. That's all," Richard said.
"My instructions were clear. I said-"
"I know what you said, Cas,"
"So you choose to ignore my orders,"
Richard took a step toward Castiel.
"Last time I checked you're really not the boss of me Castiel. I'm doing no harm,"
Castiel took a step forward.
"Back off," Cas growled.
I walked inbetween them and pushed on their chests.
"Enough. Both of you. Castiel I dont know what your problem is but he's just fine. And Richard, I'd like it if you would stay here. With me,"
"Why do you have to be so stubborn?" Castiel asked.
"Because I'm me Cas. I promise you everything is okay. I'm okay. He's doing a great job, plus I do get lonely around here," I said softly.
"Very well," he said softly as he looked at me.
He looked back up at Richard, then to the wall beside him. Richard had made an angel banishing sigil. He swallowed and then looked back at Richard.
"I'm not done, Richard. Keep that in mind. You don't have to banish me. I'll see myself out," He said before he disappeared.

Familiar

That evening after a long bath and I was dressed in my bath robe, I lay on the couch unable to sleep. I was wide awake. I couldn't understand Richard. Also, why did his voice sound so familiar to me? I decided to call him.
"Richard?" I called out.
I waited a few moments and before I could call again, he was towering over me. He was wearing a white sweater now and no hat.
"Hey," he said calmly.
I sat up and curled my legs under me. I patted the place beside me. He nodded and sat down.
"It's not that I don't like you Richard. I'm just confused. Scared,"
"I can understand that,"
"Why do you watch me?"
He paused and looked down to the floor. It seemed he was trying to find a way to explain. He looked back at me.
"I'm drawn to you. I don't know how or why but I am."
I nodded slowly.
"Ya know, your voice sounds really familiar. I can't put my finger on it. And in all honesty its very calming. You're calming. It scares me."
"Well I am an angel," he grinned at me.
"True,"
I smiled and he smiled back.
"I really should get back upstairs, it's a civil war and Cas needs my help. If you need me, just call. I'll drop everything to come,"
I nodded. He stood up and looked down at me.
"Goodnight Cadence," he said softly before he disappeared.
"goodnight," I whispered softly.
A few minutes past. I was daydreaming of Richard. Then the lights began to flicker. I stood and grabbed my knife. I listened for whatever it was. I couldn't hear anything. After a while I sat down and waited to see if anything showed up. I eventually drifted off to sleep on the couch.

Uncle Bobby

I grabbed my keys and stormed out to my black 1976 Ford truck. I was headed to Uncle Bobby's. One thing, Bobby wasn't actually my uncle. He acted if so though, he took me in when I needed it most. My name is Cadence Winchester, I'm a lost cousin of Sam and Dean's. My mother was killed by a demon when I was 13 years old. Then I became a hunter. I had heard being a hunter ran in my blood. I had never met any of my relatives till after mom died and I went off on my own. I met Sam and Dean during a battle with a Djinn. I was poisoned and almost died. They called Castiel and he healed me with his touch. I then explained who I was and what had happened. They thought I was dead with my mom.

I pulled into Bobby's drive. He was out in the yard with a shovel. I parked and hopped out.
"Hey there Cadence, everything alright?" he asked sympathetically as he propped himself up with the shovel.
I slammed the door shut.
"No everything is definitely not alright," I said as I walked over to the tail gate.
I let it down and hopped up on it. I pulled out a cigarette and searched my pockets for a lighter.
"What's going on?" he asked.
"Cas assigned me a guardian angel," I said with the cigarette between my lips as I lit it
"How is that a bad thing Cade?" he chuckled.
I nodded as I put my lighter away and took a few big puffs. I breathed out the smoke and calmed down before I spoke.
"His name is Richard. He's been watching me for a long time. I think since I was born Bobby, It creeps me out,"
"Yeah that is a bit, strange,"
"Cas new that he was watching me. That's why he assigned him to me,"
"Well, I dont know what to tell you Cadence. Maybe he's not as bad as you think,"
"Yeah well I hope not. He saved my ass from Crowley,"
"You faced Crowley?!  Alone?! What in the hell were you thinking?!"
"You have no faith in me Bobby,"
"Well what happened?"
"Crowley had me up on the wall. Richard stepped in and put him under a Devil's Trap. He let me go. Then Richard brought me home and we talked,"
"You know that Crowley is just gonna be after you now Cadence,"
"Yeah, I guess," I said as I took my last puff of my cigarette and threw it on the ground.
"You guess? This is why we don't work alone,"
"You do,"
He paused.
"That's besides the point Cade. I've been at this for a very long time. You? You're a rookie,"
"But I'm good,"
"Yeah good at playing with death. You're gonna get yourself killed or worse,"
"I have Richard,"
"So now you're on good terms with him?"
I frowned.
"That's what I thought. Do us all a favor and go work with Dean and Sammy. I know they really want you on their team,"
I hopped off the tail gate and slammed it shut.
"I work alone and that's final Bobby. I'll see you around," I said as I walked around to the door of my truck and opened it.
"Take care kid,"
I nodded and hopped it the truck. I reached to grab the keys and they weren't there.
"You don't like me do you?" a voice said from beside me.
It startled me. It was Richard. He held up my keys in his hand. I grabbed them from him and put them in the ignition.
"I'm just cautious. Its hard for me-"
"to trust,"
I looked at him again.
"Y-yeah," I said with a stutter as I looked away.
"Look, it's okay. I promise. I'll prove myself to you. You can trust me,"
"That's what they all say," I grumbled.
I turned over the ignition and the truck roared to life. When I looked over, he was gone.

Watchful Eye

"With the angels?" I asked.
"Yes, that's correct,"
I sat down on the couch.
"So you're my-"
"Guardian angel,"
I was dumbfounded. Speechless. Shocked. He walked over and sat down beside me. He waited for me to find my words again.
"How come you've never came through before?" I asked.
"I didn't think you needed my help. But I couldn't stand by and watch Crowley kill you or take your soul,"
"But it would've been my choice of fate,"
"I know Cadence, but it's my duty to watch over you,"
"Are you friends with Castiel?"
"Yes, I know Cas very well,"
"Did he assign you to me?"
He slowly nodded.
"Kind of. I've been watching you for a long time. Making sure you were safe. He took notice,"
"But why? Why were you watching?"
He glared out the window and up at the sky. Frozen for a few moments.
"I gotta go," he said as he stood up.
"Wait, tell me why-" I started as I began to stand as well.
Then he was gone. Disappeared. I jumped up.
"CASTIEL" I yelled.
I waited a few more moments and then tried again.
"CASTIEL!"
"I'm right here Cadence" he said from behind me.
I turned around.
"You assigned me an angel?" I asked.
He sighed.
"Yes. He was already watching you. I just gave him permission to help. Intervene if need be and to keep you- and your soul- safe,"
"So backup"
"no-"
"Cas that's backup and you know I go solo,"
"That's a good way to get yourself killed, or worse. You're a new hunter Cade, a rookie. You can't do it alone,"
"Now you sound just like Dean and Sammy," I said as I crossed my arms.
"As I should. They love you Cade. They're your family. They love you like a little sister,"
"I did just fine on my own before I met them,"
"You and I both know that isn't true. You've almost died so many times because of your stubborn ass ways. Do you realize how many times you've gotten lucky? How many times you've put Richard through almost intervening without permission?"
"WHY DOES HE EVEN CARE?! WHY DOES HE WATCH ME?!"
"I don't know Cade,"
"You're lying,"
"I'm needed upstairs, we'll continue this another time," Cas said before he vanished.
I was angry. I could go solo. I'd lived so far. Though as hard as it was to admit, Richard did save my ass during the last round-about with Crowley.

Guardian

I ran as fast as I could away from him. The king of Hell. His name, Crowley.
"Darling you cannot run from a demon, I'm afraid," the calm, husky, accented voice behind me said.
There was a flash of him in front of me and the next thing I knew I was flying through the air. I crashed into a wall and fell to the ground. He stalked toward me, his hand out as to grab my throat. I lifted into the air, my back dragging against the wall. I couldn't breathe.
"Enough Crowley," a familiar and stern voice said somewhere to my right.
My vision was starting to get blurry. I was choking.
"Who are you?" Crowley said, turning his head toward the man in a black leather trench coat with a stetson hat to match.
"I'm her guardian. Let her go,"
"Do you really think you can order around the King of Hell?"
The grip on my throat tightened and I inched up the wall a bit. I heard the man take a step towards us.
"ah ah ah Sonny. One wrong move and she'll be dead."
The man froze.
"Now, I'll ask again. Who are you?"
"Richard,"
"Nice to meet you Richard,"
"I'm not here for small talk. Let her go,"
Crowley chuckled.
"I'll make a deal with you. Your soul, for the girl,"
"I'm not making any deals with you,"
Crowley looked up. He was standing under a Devil's Trap.
"Now let her go," Richard demanded again.
Crowley slowly let me down. I gasped for breath once I reached the floor.
"Now if you will please let me go I have other business to tend to, sir," Crowley growled.
Richard snapped a finger and the Devil's Trap disappeared.
"Thank you," Crowley said before he disappeared.
Richard jogged over to me and kneeled.
"Are you alright?" he asked.
I nodded and looked up at him. He was beautiful, if a man could be beautiful.
"Y-yes. Thank you uh, Richard,"
He smiled.
"I can take you home, if you'd like"
"I'd like that,"
We both smiled. Then I was home. We teleported.
"How did you-"
"As I told Crowley, I'm your guardian"
"So-"
"I'm with the angels,"
